Rhythm is the foundation of any musical skill. What better way is there to learn about rhythm than with rhythm instruments? While lessons will mostly be taught on a traditional drum set, some hand percussion instruments may be used as well as anything on which we can play a rhythm. Lessons will be tailored to the students’ interests but they will learn to read and write drum notation, proper playing technique, the mechanics of a drum set, tuning, how to play their favorite songs, and how to accompany other musicians.

Drum lessons are a great choice for children 5 years in age and up. Expose your youngsters to rhythm through dance, singing/humming, clapping, stomping, and percussion instruments. Even if you’re looking for a “general music” lesson or drum lessons, “rhythm” lessons can provide the foundation of the basic music principles. Everyone has a sense of rhythm that may just need some guidance.

Owning a drum set is not required to begin taking lessons. All you need to begin is a pair of drum sticks and something to play on like a practice pad or even an old phone book or catalog. If playing on a drum set is your ultimate goal, eventually you’ll want to have one to further your progress.

Drum lessons are organized in 30 min and 60 min increments. Lessons are by appointment only and are available to students of all ages (5+ recommended) and skill levels.

Current Rates:
30 min lesson – $20
60 min lesson – $40

Tuition Policy:
Tuition is to be paid on a month to month basis prior to the lessons in that month. Much like paying rent or a mortgage that is due on the first of the month, tuition is due on or before the first lesson in the month. If tuition is not received by the second lesson of the month, your time slot will be forfeited and no further lessons will take place unless tuition is paid in full. Special circumstances will be handled on an individual basis.

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations require at least a 24 hour notice. Unexpected circumstances will be handled on an individual basis. RhythmSTL reserves the right to cancel lessons at any time for any reason. I will work with you to reschedule make-up lessons. A “no-call-no-show” [failure to notify of an absence] will result in the forfeit of the tuition for that lesson with no make-up lesson.

Make-up Policy:
Make-up lessons (for lessons cancelled by student) must be scheduled and completed within 30 days of initial cancellation. After 30 days, no make-up lesson will be granted and tuition for that lesson will be forfeited. A make-up lesson can be cancelled and rescheduled as long as it occurs within 30 days of the initial cancellation. Special circumstances will be dealt with on an individual basis. Students (or the parents/guardians of) are responsible for contacting RhythmSTL to schedule make-up lessons for those cancelled by student.
